What is Project Excel Yourself?

Project Excel Yourself is the exciting new business venture launched by Excel Sports Academy in November 2007.

Excel Sports Academy is committed to initiating new and innovative ways of getting kids fitter, more active and healthier. The key objectives of Project Excel Yourself are to invest in the long-term health and well-being of Scottish children by taking positive approaches to creating a healthier future.

The obesity crisis and the social impact that this growing sedentary population will have on the future of our nation is a great concern to us. Project Excel Yourself has been launched to tackle this issue head-on using the most up-to-date cutting edge research and available expertise in the fields of sport and exercise science, health management, performance and sport psychology, and medicine.

This project is multifaceted incorporating numerous initiatives which can be broken down into three main categories: holiday camps for inactive and overweight kids, support services for schools & PE departments and ongoing research and development initiatives.

This year some very exciting pilot research projects are being launched in order to gain greater understanding of the complex issues involved in childhood obesity and the growing inactive populations within our society. We aim to contribute meaningful research to the scientific community so more solutions-focused approaches to tackling these challenging issues can be implemented.

Additionally, a range of programmes aimed at the growing numbers of unfit, unhealthy and morbidly obese children in Scotland will be rolled out in October 2008. The children who make up the numbers in this ever-growing group are terribly under-serviced in the community. Without immediate action to address these issues the long term impact on our society will be devastating.

Once pilot projects are successfully delivered it is our long-term vision to eventually offer a range of programmes delivered nationwide aimed at reducing the number of obese, sedentary and overweight children in Scotland year-on-year. The long term vision: a society of active, healthy and fit kids who flourish into active, healthy adult lives.

One of our primary goals in this project is to help the Scottish Executive ‘Deliver a Lasting Legacy for Scotland’ by being one of the key stakeholders in transforming the nation’s levels of health and activity from the bottom of the league tables to the top. This will take time and commitment but it is possible.

Will you join us in our mission to succeed?
